Service Delivery – Manager of Field Operations (Covering the East and North Yorkshire region).

A permanent opportunity has arisen for a Manager of Field Operations within the East Yorkshire region to join our Water Distribution department within the Water Service Delivery Business Unit. The role is a flexible hybrid working arrangement with an expectation that some time will be spent travelling to and working from the operational depot where the team operates; therefore, a full valid driving licence (with no more than 6 points) is a requirement of this role.


Purpose of the role


As our Manager of Field Operations, you will drive business performance through role modelling leadership to a team of operational and technical colleagues, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of upper quartile Supply Interruptions and Water Quality performance as well as sector leading Customer Experience.


Working with the Service Delivery lead on the upper quartile programme and our Asset Management team, you will deliver the strategy and change programme required to meet and deliver organisational performance targets.


In addition, our Manager of Field Operations will:

Create and shape the future direction of the Field Operations division to maintain Industry leading operational performance across AMP 7 whilst delivering operational efficiencies.


Monitor, review and adjust Operational performance plans as necessary to ensure successful delivery of challenging targets.


Drive excellent standards in health and safety, risk management and control of work, ensuring full compliance with the organisational Safety Policy, highlighting, and managing any strategic risks and ensuring the strategic risk register is kept updated.


Lead the team to deliver excellent Operational performance, setting clear expectations linked to business targets and hold meaningful performance discussions with direct reports to recognise, reward and challenge behaviours and individual performance where appropriate.


Work collaboratively with other senior customer management roles across the business to assess and implement new technologies into standard business operations, whilst developing and revolutionising customer service levels through the adoption of digital transformation opportunities.


Improve customer satisfaction in all field-related activity through effective, informed and empowered customer management.


Demonstrate relentless drive, energy, and determination to deliver sustainable operational outperformance for YW that rigorously achieves against demanding competitive industry benchmarks.


Ensure robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions.


Ensure real time understanding of Field Operations performance, risks and priorities, maximising asset availability through adherence to the asset and operations plans and procedures.


Develop robust mitigation plans to ensure Field Operational delivery in the event of environmental or operational challenges, managing incidents effectively to minimise environmental/customer impact and restore services as quickly and efficiently as possible.


Build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and our service partners as well as other water companies to effectively benchmark and share best practice.


Knowledge and Skills Required


Our Manager of Field Operations will have a sound understanding of Water Networks and managing above and below ground assets as well as a recognisable skillset, preferably within the water industry, its regulators bodies and/or experience within the utility sector. You will also:


Have excellent operational and people leader skills, balanced with the analytical and creative abilities necessary for innovation.

Be able to understand data and formulate effective strategies for teams, with the ability to lead and motivate field-based operational roles.

Possess in-depth knowledge and experience of best practice, constantly looking for new ways of working and improving.

Have previous budget and P&L management experience.

Travel is required as part of this role; therefore, a full valid driving licence (with no more than 6 points) is a requirement of this role.

Yorkshire Water is a 24/7 Operation; therefore, flexibility is a requirement of this role. The Regional Operations Manager will be required to participate in a management standby rota.


Good understanding of Water operational structures and processes.

Understanding of the regulatory requirements and measures for WASCs.

Understanding of the Water Act and the Competition Act.

Experience of setting up new functions and teams that covers process, systems, and people.

Degree or equivalent in Science or Engineering is preferable.
